Community services - Lions fact: Lions helped form Guide Dogs for the Blind

Apart from the fund raisers aimed at specific charities, we try to help out local good causes plus children and senior citizens. Below are some of the events we fund or assist with either financially or with our time:

Important Message to Men over 40

Prostate Cancer Screening

Unlike Women, who under go automatic testing for Breast Cancel and Cervical Cancer, there are no automatic Cancer tests specifically for Men on the NHS.

When you become 40, the chances of Prostate Cancer increases.

It is recommended that men aged 40 years and over have a regular PSA test carried out.

We have been working with The Graham Fulford Charitable Trust [GFCT] to organise a Test Centre in Wellesbourne to enable Men in the area to either start regular tests or to update their test.

Unfortunatly testing through any service isn't free, but Wellesbourne & District Lions are subsidising the costs at our event to £10 for the first 60 places taken up.

Use the QR code in the poster below to take to The Graham Fulford Charitable Trust website where you can register and book your place.

Alteranativly use the following link to take you directly there or use their contact details at the bottom of the poster.

On-Going Projects

Recycling Spectacles and Hearing Aids

Pharmacies In Wellesbourne and Kineton have bins to collect unwanted spectacles and hearing aids. These are then forwarded to Lions HQ in Birmingham where they are checked and classified before being sent to Third World Countries via Lions Clubs International.

Support During April 2022

Litter Picking - June 2022

This month we completed another litter pick, this time along the Wellesbourne by-pass, nine bags of rubbish were collected. Just a small contribution to improving the environment.

Sponsoring Junior Cricketers

We are proud to be sponsoring this year’s team caps for Wellesbourne Cricket Club Juniors. Our meetings are now being held at the Cricket Club pavilion and this is our way of showing our appreciation for being made so welcome.

Riding for the Disabled

We are sponsoring an 8 year old child with cerebral palsy so that they can enjoy another 12 months of riding with RDA.

Lions are always keen to help groups working with young people, please get in touch if you think we can help your group in some way using the “Contact Us” link at the bottom of the page.

Do look out for our bright yellow jerseys and blue gazebos at an event in your community over the summer months - come and have a chat to find out more about what we do.

April 2020 - Senior Citizens Concert

Unfortunatley we had to cancel this years Senior Citizens Concert. Watch out for news on our next one will be in 2021, all things being well.

June 2020 - Local Fetes and Fayres

It looks like we will not be attending any Fetes or Fayres this year. Lets hope things improve so we can see you all for the Christmas Lights switch-on.

We're going to be out again in 2021, keep a watch out as when the event is and come and see us.

September 2020

This was going to be our Classis Fun Day, which was going to be at the Cricket Club again. Unfortunatley we've had to cancel it. Keep an eye open for more information about 2021.

2020 - What have we been doing.

Below is a picture from the local paper showing what we've been doing as we haven't just given up.

If you're having problem reading the article from the local paper, click Here to open a PDF version of the text.

If you would like to make a donation to the club to support our activities while we are unable to collect from you directly then we would be happy to receive a donation on our Just Giving page.

We have been helping out at Hastings House Medical Centre by supplying our Gazebos to shelter people from the weather during the Flu Jabs.

Below is a picture showing a Gazebo and staff at Hastings House.

In addition to these special events, we regularly contribute to worthy local causes e.g. Scouting, Guiding, Medic Alert, certain personal hardships, school projects, disabled peoples projects, pre-schools etc. etc.
